Relaxation Exercise

Do you suffer with pain and discomfort in your back? Does it give you sleepless nights and cause you more stress which stops you being able to relax? If you find relaxing a problem this exercise will help you become more aware of your posture and also encourage your muscles to relax.

The Relaxation Exercise: Start

1. Lie in the Relaxation Position (see picture). Use a comfortable mat or carpet.

2. If needed, support your head with a thin cushion or mat.

3. Keep your feet and knees in line with your hips, or a little wider if that is more comfortable.

4. Place hands on abdomen (see picture) Take a deep breath, hold, then release it slowly.

The Relaxation Exercise: Action

1. (Breathing In): Raise your shoulders toward your ears.

2. (Breathing out): Lower your shoulders towards your hips

3. (Breathing normally): Let your shoulders totally relax.

4. Feel your body widens and lengthen. And sink into the floor
